The Sentra is one of the oldest models in Nissan’s line-up. The nameplate has been around at least since the 1990s, perhaps even a decade longer than that. As for the latest avatar of this Nissan family sedan, the eighth-generation Sentra arrived in 2019 and is based on the Renault-Nissan CMF-CD platform. Most cars are either facelifted or given an entirely complete makeover in the form of a new-generation model.

The Nissan Sentra has been on sale in the UAE for several years now, though it has been off of showroom floors for some time in the region. This is why the new Sentra is big news for those who have been looking to buy a reasonably priced and spacious compact sedan. That said, what does the 2024 Nissan Sentra hold for prospective buyers?

New and sportier design language

Compared to the mundane styling of older models, the new Nissan Sentra looks far more modern and sportier. For those that were fine with the previous generation of the Sentra, would most likely love the exterior design of the 2024 Sentra. Depending on the variant, the new Nissan Sentra should feature a deeper and wider V-motion front grille with gloss black & chrome trim, complemented by sleek headlights with LED daytime-running lights, and faux vertical intakes on the front bumper.

The new Sentra also scores a more sculpted hood that looks quite contemporary over its predecessor, while the optional dual-tone exterior color adds to the overall look of the car. There is a presence of strong lines and curves along the shoulder of the new Sentra along with a sloping roof, shiny chrome trim along the window line, and two-tone alloy wheels.

The rear of the new Nissan Sentra consists of a small duck-tail spoiler, new wrap-around taillights with some contemporary LED elements, and a sporty-looking rear bumper that comprises a faux rear diffuser plus a chrome-tipped exhaust. Looking at the side profile of the 2024 Nissan Sentra, the new model has a roof that clearly isn’t as awkwardly tall as the previous model. Therefore, the sedan now comes across as a more modern iteration of the Sentra one has come to know in the UAE so far.

Updated interior with better technology

Unlike its precursor, the inside of the 2024 Nissan Sentra appears properly modern and relatively upscale. Not only are the seats upholstered in higher-quality materials, but the front “Zero Gravity” ones are also likely more comfortable and supportive. There are knurled dials for the HVAC system with nicer-looking front vents, a flat-bottom steering wheel with faux-leather finish, and even stitched leather trim along the dashboard, seats, center console, and doors.

The touch & feel of many of the controls and surfaces should also feel far better than ever before. Along with that, it is likely that Nissan has worked on improving cabin insulation and comfort. The practicality of the cabin is boosted by 60/40 split-folding rear seats, a rear-seat armrest with built-in cupholders, up to 3 USB ports, and around 405 liters of boot space.

Speaking about the new Nissan Sentra features, there is keyless entry with push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, a 7-inch partial-digital display, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, a premium Bose audio system, an electronic sunroof, and even a powered driver’s seat.

Safety technology in the new Nissan Sentra

Apart from boasting new convenience features, the 2024 Nissan Sentra should also come with better safety nannies when compared to the previous-generation model. In the international market, the new Sentra can be had with the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite, which includes Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, and Rear Automatic Braking. There are also surround-view cameras, Driver Alertness, an Easy-Fill Tire Alert system, and multiple airbags.

Powertrain of the new Nissan Sentra

The new Nissan Sentra that is coming to the UAE is likely to be equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 149 hp and about 198 Nm of torque. The Sentra will still be a front-wheel-drive platform, featuring a CVT gearbox. While Nissan hasn’t confirmed the official stats of the 2024 Sentra, the family sedan could have a top speed of around 200 km/h. When it comes to the new Nissan Sentra’s fuel economy, expect about 13.7 km/l or 7.3 L/100 km.

Should you wait for the new Nissan Sentra?

In the UAE, the Nissan Sentra goes up against the likes of the Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla, Renault Megane, and Volkswagen Jetta. While these are good on their own, the new Sentra looks quite a bit more sporty than its VW and Toyota counterparts. As for the price of the new Nissan Sentra in the UAE, there is no official word, but it will be pricier than its predecessor.

If you have been waiting to buy a new compact sedan in the UAE and you are not in a hurry, it will be worthwhile waiting for the new Nissan Sentra. It should bring in many new features and a more interesting design, which will make it a far better option than the old Nissan Sentra.
