A total of 21,962 vehicles were seized during the first half of 2013 by the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate for unfit tyres.

The Directorate warned that driving with damaged or worn-out tyres can cause them to burst which will lead to serious or fatal traffic accidents.

Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi, Head of Peripheral Regions Traffic Department at Abu Dhabi Police, said: “This comes in line with the awareness-raising programmes, as part of the ‘summer without accidents’ campaign launched by the Ministry of Interior, to reduce traffic accidents. It also embodies the Traffic and Patrols Directorate’s strategy, which stems out of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ key objective to make streets safer.”

Tyres have a lifespan of 5 years only, whether they are in storage or are being used. Police also urged drivers to get rid of their old tyres in a proper manner and not just leave them on the street.
