2024 Chevrolet Captiva launched in the Middle East

SAIC Motor Corporation, along with General Motors and Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co., Ltd., collaborated to create a new brand called Baojun. This joint venture led to the Baojun 530 compact crossover SUV, which entered the Chinese market in 2018. Of course, General Motors was keen on introducing this SUV in other markets, one of which included the Middle East region. The first-generation Chevrolet Captiva made its debut in 2006, with the second-generation Captiva now making its Middle-Eastern debut as a 2024 model year.

Exterior design of the 2024 Chevrolet Captiva

The exterior design of the new Chevrolet Captiva almost mirrors that of the new Baojun 530, meaning that the general silhouette of the 2024 Captiva is not too different from that of its Chinese counterpart. That said, Chevrolet has made just enough tweaks to help buyers differentiate this American crossover from the Baojun that it is based upon.

The front main grille is black on both cars, but the new Captiva’s unit is chunkier and features the brand’s unmistakable bow-tie logo. Even the front bumper has been thoroughly worked upon, resulting in a more integrated & sportier design that encompasses revised headlamps and a lower apron. The high-mounted LED running lights of the Captiva are also different from those found in the Baojun 530, being physically larger and brighter.

The sides of the 2024 Captiva sports 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels, squared-out wheel arches featuring black plastic cladding, shiny trim on the door handles & the doors, and a massive ‘Chevrolet’ symbol on the tailgate. Apart from these, the rest of the car is almost a carbon copy of the Baojun 530 SUV. The overall styling of this Chevrolet SUV is fairly modern, especially when painted in the Glaze Red Metallic color. Other exterior colors of the 2024 Captiva include Tungsten Grey Metallic, Polar White Metallic, Aurora Silver Metallic, and Star Twinkle Black Metallic.

The 2024 Chevrolet Captiva is sold as a 7-seat SUV, which means there are three rows of seats, making this a pretty practical family wagon. The cabin of the new Captiva looks quite comfortable and upscale, especially in its light-beige interior theme. Stepping inside will reveal a fully digital instrument console and a portrait-style infotainment display, plus soft-touch stitched-leather trim on the dashboard and door panels.

The new Captiva’s cabin also features gloss-black and chrome trim bits to further highlight this Chevy SUV’s aspirations for being a comfortable family hauler. While the chunky leather-clad steering wheel and the hefty-looking door handles add to the quality feel of the 2024 Captiva, the front and middle seats are fairly well-bolstered and comfortable. Moreover, the panoramic sunroof also lets in quite a bit of light, leading to a spacious and well-lit cabin.

The Chevrolet Captiva can be had with modern features such as LED headlights with LED DRLs, keyless entry with push-button start, cruise control, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 10.4-inch touchscreen display that integrates Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, a 6-speaker audio system with AUX, USB, and Bluetooth connectivity, and the aforementioned panoramic sunroof.

The new Captiva comes equipped with up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, Hill Start Assist (HSA), Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ISOFIX child-seat anchors, front & rear parking sensors, and surround-view cameras.

Powertrain and performance of the 2024 Chevrolet Captiva

In the Middle East, including the UAE, the 2024 Captiva comes with a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine that can produce 149 hp and 255 Nm of torque. The motor is mated to a CVT automatic gearbox, which drives the front wheels. The crossover is definitely not rapid, but it can hit a top speed of 180 km/h. Meanwhile, the 2024 Captiva should likely achieve a fuel economy of 9.2 L/100 km or 10.2 km/l.

How much does the 2024 Chevrolet Captiva cost in the UAE?

The new Chevrolet Captiva is available in three different trims in the UAE. The base LS costs AED 74,900, LT starts from AED 78,300, and the range-topping Premier variant comes in at AED 84,500.
