Quick Review

Comfortable, responsive and economical to run, the Renault Clio just about covers everything you’d want from a supermini, putting rivals Ford Fiesta and Peugeot 107 in the shade. The turbocharged 2.0-litre 200bhp version offering excellent bite.

Excellent handling is Clio’s trademark. It grips the road nice and tightly on corners, and steering is light and precise for easy driving around town.

The third generation Clio has had a modern makeover. Inspired by the new Megane, in comes more streamlined headlamps and a new bumper and taillights at the rear. Longer than the previous version (at 4m) it is not so ‘supermini’ as you might expect. The trade-off pays, however, with more room inside. Even the three-door model feels roomy with four adults inside while the boot is deep and a decent size.

The latest model also features better quality materials and a "Renault Card" keyless immobilizer. Renault offers a vast array of trims to choose from, however the dashboard is somewhat disappointing in the cheap ones. This lets the car down a little. However when up against the rest of the supermini class with its more comfortable spacious cabin, better designed seats and smoother ride, the Clio is a great car to drive and run.
