Quick Overview

The Volkswagen CC originally entered the market as the Passat CC; but it's for the better that the name was shortened. Having gone through a recent facelift, mostly on the exterior, the CC is a handsome car with a long swooping roofline making it look very elegant. It should be noted that the VW CC is referred as a ''four door coupe'' rather than a proper sedan. Its rivals include the Audi A5 Sportback and the more expensive Mercedes CLS and Audi A7.

The VW CC may look different than a regular VW Passat, but they share the same platform. The smaller CC, however, feels much more nimble and agile as well as being lighter and quite a lot more fun to drive. The 2014 CC comes with fancy LED lights that make the car distinguishable especially at night. It looks very modern, sleek and has a certain fashion sense and design language that is very appealing. Available in 5 trim levels, with 3 different engines; a 1.8 Litre 4 cylinder turbo with 160 HP, a 2.0 Litre 4 cylinder turbo with 210 HP, both of which are front wheel drive and a big 3.6 Litre V6 with 295 HP that comes with all wheel drive. All engines are mated to an excellent 7 Speed dual clutch automatic that has lightning quick shifts. The engine of choice however is the 2.0 Litre Turbo. Although a bit anaemic at low revs, it becomes delightful once the turbo spools up and despite being front wheel drive, it has good handling and a very comfortable ride. Add the optional damper control and it is even more pleasurable to drive and delivers a plush ride for passengers.

The interior is similar to the old generation, which isn't a bad thing because it is a nice place to be in. However, due to the low roof, people in the back can get slightly cramped. Being a VW, everything is logical and has a German minimalist design that is very modern. Standard equipment is fair, but a host of options are available to suit anyone's needs. The optional infotainment system is probably one of the best on the market with touch controls and one of the most accurate navigation systems. The 2014 VW is very nice car; despite not having the brand prestige of its more luxurious German brethren, it is a tempting choice.
