The first-generation Cherokee from the 1970s was based on the even older Jeep Wagoneer, which debuted in the early 1960s. Since then, there have been five new iterations of the Jeep Cherokee – the latest of which was the Cherokee KL, which debuted in 2013. Where the previous iterations of the Cherokee were boxy SUVs, Jeep decided to go the crossover route for the last generation of the Cherokee.

Not only did the Jeep Cherokee transform into a modern crossover in its latest avatar, but the platform underpinning it was the result of Fiat and Chrysler joining hands. While the Jeep Cherokee did fairly well in some markets, its days were unfortunately numbered. The American automaker finally decided to pull the plug on this car in early 2023, marking an end to nearly 50 years of production of the Jeep Cherokee.

If you want to buy a used Jeep Cherokee in UAE, several neat examples are available on YallaMotor for you to check out. Likewise, whether it be a list of the most expensive cars in Dubai, or if you are searching for used cars for sale in UAE, YallaMotor has you covered.

Exterior

Thanks to Jeep’s signature seven-slot grille (dressed in chrome), the Cherokee will always be easy to identify on the road as a product from Jeep’s stable. The front fascia gets sleek LED headlights, with their design looking akin to that of a hawk’s head – eye-catching, indeed. The sculpted front bumper looks modern, featuring fog lamps with chrome surrounds, and a fairly sporty-looking lower apron.

The side of the Jeep Cherokee looks pretty nonchalant, highlighted only by the prominent roof rails, squared wheel arches, and wheel sizes up to 18 inches with a bold, 5-spoke design on the top trim. The rear of the Cherokee features suave LED strips within the taillights, chrome trim on the bumper, a decently-sized roof spoiler, and twin tailpipes with shiny chrome garnish.

The Jeep Cherokee can measure up to 4,650 mm in length, 1,904 mm in width, and 1,723 mm in height. Its wheelbase is around 2,720 mm, with ground clearance of up to 222 mm, an approach angle of 29.9 inches, a departure angle of 32.3 inches, and a breakover angle of 22.9 inches. The Jeep Cherokee might be larger than the Jeep Renegade, but the latter didn’t last nearly as long. Where the Limited variant looks stylish, the Cherokee Trailhawk looks rugged.

Interior

The Jeep Cherokee’s interior is not one that will make you shriek with excitement at first glance. This is to say that its design is one that comes across as boring in 2024 – perhaps one from a car originating in the mid-2000s. The dashboard and center console are not a sight for sore eyes, though their functionality is not terribly hindered. It is easy to change the temperature and control the fan speed of the AC, while two large knobs are provided to control the music system’s volume and track selection.

There are big buttons to mute the audio system and also to turn off the infotainment screen, plus a sizeable dial to browse through the various terrain/traction modes of the Jeep Cherokee 4WD variant. The leather-wrapped gear lever is old-school, paired with a large electronic handbrake selector, a typical three-spoke steering wheel, and an easily legible analog rev counter & speedometer. Higher variants of the Cherokee can get a dual-tone interior trimmed in soft-touch leather upholstery, a decent number of storage cubbies, and a comfortable front armrest.

Upon close inspection, you will find out that this cabin is not lacking in scratchy and cheaper plastic trim. The soft-touch materials are mostly limited to the steering wheel, seats, and a portion of the doors. The interior styling is undeniably simplistic and focuses more on ease of use, though the door cubbies could have been more capacious. On the other hand, the boot space of the Jeep Cherokee, over 700 liters, is truly impressive for a vehicle this size.

Features

The Jeep Cherokee features list rope-in items like keyless entry with push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, LED DRLs, automatic headlamps, powered door mirrors, AUX & USB ports, an 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, a multi-function driver’s display, Downhill Assist Control, Electronic Stability Control, ParkSense with Park Assist, and at least six airbags.

Specifications

Over the years, the Jeep Cherokee sold in the UAE has been available with two engine options – the 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder and the 3.2-liter Pentastar six-cylinder. The Tigershark motor produces about 180 hp and 230 Nm of torque, while the larger V6 engine can develop 271 hp and 324 Nm of torque – both versions are mated to a 9-speed ZF automatic gearbox. The Jeep Cherokee fuel economy ranges between 10.9 km/L – 9.9 km/L (9.2 – 10.1 L/100 km).

The punchier Pentastar motor in the Jeep Cherokee can propel it to 100 km/h in around 8.5 seconds, with the Cherokee 2.4 achieving the same in about 11 seconds. Similarly, the Cherokee 3.2 version can attain a top speed of 185 km/h, while the less powerful variant reaches its potential at 175 km/h. Both versions can be had with a nifty all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, along with electronic aids and low-range gearing. However, neither feel particularly enthusiastic about driving on the road.

Price

When it was new, the Jeep Cherokee in the UAE had a price tag that commenced from around AED 90,000. There were two-wheel-drive (2WD) and four-wheel-drive (4WD) variants on sale, with the most expensive variant coming in at around AED 115,000.
