Quick Review

Opel is a new entrant to the Middle East market. In the UAE it has been out of the market for more than 10 years and now it has made a comeback with a fresh new line up of models, including the 2013 Opel Astra GTC. The Astra GTC competes primarily with Volkswagen Golf 1.4L.

The most impressive thing about this car is the exterior styling. It is one of the most stylish hatchbacks with sleek lines giving a sporty and muscular look. Sit inside however and you'll face a few issues.

For one, the drive isn't sporty at all. It's a regular passenger hatchback drive, with decent handling and will take you from point A to point B. It is German engineered so it will be reliable as well. However don't expect a sporty drive feel just because of it's sporty looks!

On the interior side, again the seats are sporty, the steering is leather perforated and there are good finishing touches on the dash. Yet, the rear legroom is almost non existent which means it's not really the "comfortable 5 seater" which was advertised. It's really a two seater in all fairness. On the plus side, the trunk is decent sized and slightly bigger than the boot of Volkswagen Golf.

All in all, this is a stylish hatchback with a regular drive and price tag below Volkswagen Golf. While it impresses on style, it lags on practicality.
