Quick Review

The 2012 BMW 5 Series is a midsize luxury sedan. It's available in three trim levels, corresponding with engine choice: 520i, 528i, 530i, 535i and 550i. Both the 528i and 535i now get an automatic stop/start system as standard. The iDrive system has also been revamped.

Packing a combination of high technology, high performance and comfort, the 2012 BMW 5 Series rules the roost in the midsize luxury sedan segment. It stands up favorably next to competitors, drawing higher scores from testers than many comparable cars. Although perhaps less visually opulent than the Jaguar XF, for example, it has a lower price tag and more spacious rear seating, while it blows away the Audi A6 for luxury and style.

The 2012 model has many features that will appeal to someone in the market for a luxury sedan. The 5 Series a versatile car that offers an exciting ride without compromising on safety, making it a good choice for an upscale family car as well as being ideal for the sports sedan enthusiast.

Part of the 5 Series's versatility is down to its Driving Dynamics Control. Offering four levels (Comfort, Normal, Sport, and Sport+), this system gives you control over a variety of systems such as throttle response and suspension to create four very different driving experiences. Comfortable, adjustable seating helps improve the ride. The car handles well both in the city and on the highway.
