Quick Review

The BMW 3 Series comes in a great variety of shapes and sizes. Even the most discerning driver is sure to find something to please them. The 2012 saloon remains a very popular choice as it offers a prestige brand at a reasonable price.

The BMW 3 Series exudes evolution, rather than revolution and there aren’t hugely obvious differences from the 2011 model. A closer look will reveal a slightly longer wheelbase and a marginally higher car with a lower, more aerodynamic nose.

The 2.0 litre, 4 cylinder, turbocharged engine is just as perky as you'd expect from a BMW and this car was surely built for the open roads. However, it will tackle city driving without any fuss. It comes with a six gear transmission as standard, although you can upgrade to eight if you want absolute agility and responsiveness.

Not only is it handsome and good from a performance point of view, it also comes with lots of features as standard. The basic model comes with rain sensing wipers, electric windows all round and arm rests with storage compartments.

The 3 Series is loaded with safety features and there’s everything you might expect fitted as standard, including a good selection of air bags, childproof locking system, crash sensors and side impact protection.

The only drawback with this car is that, if anything, it’s too popular. If you wish to examine competitors, take a look at the sleek Mercedes C-Class saloon or the head turning Jaguar XF saloon.
