Sports Utility Vehicles or SUVs, have always been popular and amongst the best-sellers in the country. They offer space, comfort, a feeling of invincibility, and of course, unmatched road presence. However, the 5 SUVs on this list also offer more power under the hood. Lots more power!

The Range Rover Sport SVR is by far one of the most powerful vehicles Land Rover has ever put on sale. Specialists at the Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division of LR have tinkered with the standard Sport and the results are amazing. The Supercharged 5.0-liter V8 now puts out 542 HP and 680 Nm of torque, with power being distributed to all four wheels via an 8-speed transmission. This means that the chase to touch 100 km/h is accomplished in a mere 4.7 seconds, while top speed is 260 km/h, which is higher than its German counterparts on this list.

The get-go of the Range Rover Sport SVR is even more impressive when you take its sheer bulk into consideration (it weighs over 2.4 tons!), and the fact that the SVR is at heart, still a Range Rover. This means that it will not only toss your inner organs on a race track, but will continue to work when you run out of paved surfaces, or if you feel like wading through 850 mm deep water body.

The Bavarian carmaker is renowned for some of the most driver-centric cars. And the BMW X5M, and its slightly awkward-looking X6M sibling aren’t exceptions to this notion. Especially after the boffins from the M-Division have had their way with it, the X5M’s 4.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 motor chucks out 575 HP and 750 Nm of twisting force. This grunt is channeled through a special M-tuned 8-speed, dual-clutch transmission and sent to all four corners.

Mash your right foot and the 2.4-ton BMW X5M will hurl itself towards the horizon, and if you are clocking it, 100 km/h will be dispatched in just 4.2 seconds! While you calm your nerves from the mad acceleration, the X5M’s electronic governor will ready itself to step in once the speedo hits 250 km/h.

The Mercedes-AMG GLS63 is the only 7-seater on this list, and good lord is it a beast! Measuring in at over 5 meters in length and tipping the scales at over 2.6 tons, the GLS63 AMG can seat 7 power-hungry occupants within its spacious and comfortable cabin without much fuss.

However, don’t be fooled into thinking that this your average family SUV. Lurking under the hood is a hand-built 5.5-liter V8, which, just for some added punch, has two aggressively active turbocharges bolted onto it. The result is 585 HP and a colossal 760 Nm of torque. Hustling all of this is a relatively spirited 7-speed automatic that sends power to all fours. And despite its celestial mass, the GLS63 AMG will catapult itself and its (rather unwary) occupants to the ton-mark in just 4.6 seconds! Keeping things slightly sane is an electronic chip that limits the madness to “just” 250 km/h.

Claiming the throne to the “Fastest SUV in the world” and making it to our silver spot is none other than the Bentley Bentayga. Now, it might not be the most charismatic or handsome SUV in the market (per se), but few SUVs can challenge the sheer opulence and brute power of the Bentayga. Housed behind the glorious grille is a 6.0-liter W12 behemoth of an engine, which, just for safe measure, is bolted with two turbos.

The end result is an astonishing 600 HP and 900 Nm of torque – the latter is sufficient enough to move a small mansion! Though the Bentayga weighs over 2.4 tons, the intelligent AWD system and quick-shifting 8-speed transmission handle the power without throwing tantrums. Launch the Bentayga, and 100 km/h wizzes past in just 4.1 seconds! Keep the “go fast” pedal floored and the outside soon becomes a blur as the needle goes past the 300 km/h mark.

Mercedes-AMG G65

The Mercedes-AMG G65 comfortably takes the pole position on our power list. The G65 is full of mind-bending numbers and the eye-watering price tag is just part of it. The flagship of the G-Wagen range, the Mercedes-AMG G65 packs a twin-turbo, 6.0-liter V12 engine which makes an insane 630 HP and a mountain-moving 1,000 Nm of torque!

The G65 is so powerful, that it can tug a hot-hatchback that’s loaded onto a trailer to 100 km/h almost as quick as the hatchback could under its own steam. The 7-speed autobox isn’t the quickest in the business, but the sheer amount of poke on offer more than makes up for it. The 2.8-ton G65 makes it to the ton-mark in just 5.3 seconds, whilst top whack is limited to 230 km/h. That limitation is set in place by an electronic governor, though we feel that physics might surely have a role to play in it, as well.

Power: 630 HP

Top Speed: 230 km/h
