BMW has been one of the most constructive and powerful forces when it comes to cars that one would love to own. The Bavarian carmaker has been pumping out models that make us auto enthusiasts proud of its existence, while at the same time, their newer models are really trying to impress buyers with their technology and radical (if extremely controversial) styling. BMW is presently celebrating the 50th anniversary of its M division. As for the 4-Series itself, it came into being at some point in late-2013. At that point, it was based on the F80-gen M3/F32-gen of the 4-Series. And as we know by now, the CSL versions have always been far more special than the “regular” M iterations.

What’s on the outside?

Of course, with the latest avatar of BMWs, the all-new M4 CSL draws its basic design from the current crop of its coupes. This means that you get the not-so-loved new BMW front grille, which looks more akin to tooth braces than a beautiful conclusion of automotive art work. Then again, I don’t think BMW really calls this part of the design as their best moment under the sun. That wide gaping grille is really not that good to look at, and this really can divide opinions – like nothing we have seen so far.

On a side note, this M4 CSL does get fancy-new Laserlight LED headlights with new LED DRLs, which goes along with the beastly hood and bumper – the latter even gaining humongous intakes, thereby retaining this sports car's sportiness. You also have the front-lip carbon-fiber spoiler that drives the point home even more. Duh… Of course. Being a CSL, this BMW M4 comes strictly as a hard-top coupe. The M4 CSL features highly-animated wheel arches and rear haunches, and along with its dynamic-looking alloy rims, the M4 CSL looks really mafia hit-mobile like than a standard sports coupe.

The rear of the M4 CSL comes with its ultra-fancy LED tail lamps that already looks fantastically-modern and sporty. To top this off, you get a large duck-tail spoiler, a redesigned rear bumper, quad-exhaust pipes, and a carbon-fiber rear diffuser. While the whole car looks and feels fabulous, BMW has given this M4 CSL a brand-new color option called Frozen Brooklyn Grey Metallic.

Does the M4 CSL impress on the inside?

Obviously, if you’re paying so much money for a specialized performance coupe from Germany, you’ll expect an interior that’s at least somewhat special. And guess what, with the all-new BMW M4 CSL, you’’ get that. Some of the things that keep this experience special are touches like M Alcantara steering wheel, along with carbon-fiber interior trim bits, the obligatory “CSL” badges all over the cabin, and BMW’s so-called anthracite roof lining. Oh, also, BMW has also equipped this cabin with dual helmet storage spaces – you’ll likely be taking the M4 CSL on the track, right? RIGHT? This being a new-age BMW, build quality is really up there with the best-in-class.

What powers this Bimmer?

Being a BMW, the engine under the hood really matters. In the case of the all-new M4 CSL, the bomb powering this nostrilly coupe is a straight-six 3.0-liter turbocharged engine that’s meant to rev high. While it weighs 100 kgs less than the standard M4, the CSL also produces a massive 550 horsepower – all of which is directed towards the rear wheels. Combined with a trick 8-speed automatic gearbox, the all-new M4 CSL can go from 0 to 100 km/h in much less than 4 seconds. Meanwhile, the top speed of the M4 CSL is rated at approximately 307 km/h.

Should you buy the all-new M4 CSL?

Obviously, the M4 CSL is meant for those that don’t really care about the front design of their performance car. Instead, what they look at is how well the car performs and how well it’s made – on both of these fronts, the all-new BMW M4 CSL really entices those who love driving. Then again, there are always equivalent rivals from Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and Jaguar that don’t possess such a polarizing design.
