In a bid to reduce tailgating, one of the main causes of accidents across the UAE, Sharjah Police has introduced new cameras that catch motorists who do not leave a safe distance between their vehicle and the vehicle in front of them.

As part of their efforts to increase road safety during the holy month of Ramadan, Sharjah Police are cracking down on dangerous drivers and dangerous driving habits by issuing fines of AED 400 and four black points for tailgating.

As per statistics provided by Abu Dhabi Police, 13 per cent of traffic accidents during the first quarter of 2018, were caused by drivers who failed to maintain a safe distance. In a few unfortunate instances, such types of accidents also led to death and injuries.

Traffic experts in the country have suggested leaving a safe distance of 56 meters between vehicles when driving at 100km/h.
