Among 5 seater luxury SUV's, the SRX does make a point among relatively low competition, such as Lexus RX, Audi Q5 and BMW X3. We discover the SRX in our drives up on Dubai roads.

Driving Performance

Good, but not the best.

From the outside, this is an impressive and eye-catching vehicle, with Cadillac’s signature shield piece grille flanked by those iconic vertical headlamps.

This crossover model boasts a six-speed automatic gearbox, crisp handling and a suspension that makes for responsive cornering and the kind of sport-orientated ride that every driver looks for. All models are powered by a direct-injected 3.6L V-6 that provides the driver with an impressive 308 horsepower and 358 Nm of torque. Not the best handling in town but good enough for everyday driving. The steering can be stiffer than some competitors in the market, but the adaptive cruise control is a plus point. While the performance is satisfying, if not spectacular, this is a car that combines drive with fuel economy. More importantly, in brake testing, the SRX needed just 120 feet to stop from 60 mph in 120 feet, while crash testing delivered the top rating for this model. This is what families would look for and the SRX delivers.

Interior

The SRX distinguishes itself by offering more options for the price tag, as compared to Mercedes ML or BMW X3.

There is a rainbow of colour options to tailor the look and feel inside and outside. Everywhere you look the finish is impressive and the details clever and innovative. Cadillac's CUE information and entertainment system is the star performer, with its easy-to-use controls that are crisp and clear. The 8-inch LCD screen is simple, using just four buttons – on/off, volume up and down and home. There is top notch voice recognition technology to control everything from temperature, audio, telephone, GPS and a myriad of other options. CUE sets the tone for the interior of this car, adding to the high-quality, luxurious feel.

There is plenty of room for five adults, with impressive leg room behind both driver and passenger seats and a boot that delivers generous space. Safety is a key aspect for anyone considering buying a family car, and on that score, the Cadillac SRX more than passes the test. Antilock disc brakes come as standard, as do front side and curtain airbags. This model also comes with traction and stability control, with the vehicle’s OnStar system boasting automatic crash notification, stolen vehicle assistance, while this model also comes with blind-spot and cross-traffic alert systems.

The success of this model goes beyond traditional expectations, with the touch-screen controls and the integration of mobile devices, helping to lift the user experience to a whole new level and place this car firmly at the best in class in terms of interior features.

Verdict

Overall, the Cadillac SRX is an impressive performer. The drive is comfortable, the performance satisfying, but the combination of technology and luxury means this vehicle is a serious performer among luxury mid-size contenders.
