RAK Police New Fines

In a bid to increase the safety of road users and motorists in the emirate, Ras Al Khaimah Police have activated surveillance cameras and introduced an AED 400 fine for lane violations. Motorists, who change lanes suddenly or without indicating, will now be subjected to a fine, as findings reveal lack of lane change discipline is the leading cause of road accidents in the UAE.

Brigadier Ahmad Al Sam Al Naqbi, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department, RAK Police, said: “Failing to observe the lane rule has been blamed for many dangerous accidents, particularly at traffic lights and junctions as motorists’ sewer at the last moment to catch an exit or take a turn.” As a reminder, the officer stressed that surveillance cameras detect traffic violations such as jumping a red light, crossing an intersection at high speed, and now lane change violations too.

According to official data, in 2018, lack of lane change discipline led to crashes that killed 59 people and injured 495 in the UAE.
