Lamborghini pays tribute to the classic Miura

Beauty is subjective, but with the Miura, it’s a given. Fifty years after the launch of the car that redefined the automotive landscape, the Lamborghini Miura is still considered to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing vehicles ever built.

Sculpted by Gandini, the Miura featured pop-up headlights, raked bonnet inlets and a mesh grille that seemed to give the gorgeous Italian a permanent smile. To match its stylish exterior, the Miura housed a 3.9 liter V12 engine that put out 350 horsepower and propelled it to a top speed of 275 km/h.

With a record breaking top speed, the Miura quickly gained popularity as the fastest production road car in the world and became the planet’s first supercar. Positioned as the car for those with deep pockets and exquisite taste, the Miura found a home with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Elton John and Nicholas Cage, to name a few.

To honor the Miura, the Italian automaker launched the Lamborghini Aventador Miura Homage at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed. To match its striking exterior, the Aventador gets its power from a 6.5 liter V12 engine that produces a whopping 690 horsepower at 8,250 RPM and hits the 100km/h mark from a standstill in just 2.9 seconds.

Keeping in line with the golden anniversary of the Miura, the Aventador Miura Homage is limited to just 50 examples, meaning it could be in as much demand as the original Miura someday. What it also means, is that it’s time to pull those cheque books out and begin signing!
