The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, which rivals the 650 horsepower Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, is the Blue Oval’s most potent Mustang to date. Though covered in heavy camouflage, the model spotted testing doesn’t leave a whole lot to the imagination.

The aggressive design, is seen to highlight a new front end that is focused on feeding air to the twin-turbocharged V8 engine under the hood. The protruding panels above the grille, indicate cooling vents under the camouflage, while the diagonal beams which separate the lower air inlet from the brake-cooling ducts, tilt outward.

While the all-new Shelby GT500 is guaranteed to sport a twin-turbo V8 (since supercharging wouldn’t blend well with the brand’s EcoBoost strategy), the question remains as to which V8 the brand will use. Options include the Coyote V8 found in the Mustang GT 5.0-liter, or the Shelby 350’s 5.2-liter Voodoo V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft.

Irrespective of which engine the American brand decides to carry forward into the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, it will surpass the outgoing model’s 662 horsepower rating. Although a manual transmission can be expected as standard, the 10-speed automatic that was co-developed with Chevrolet will be available for those with a lazy left foot.

Now that’s left to do, is to wait until the Shelby GT500 hits the production line!
