Nissan Sunny 2019 Front

The Sunny nameplate has been around since the late ‘60s under the Datsun brand. However, today it is part of Nissan’s family line-up. It is certainly one of the best-selling cars in the region, and has garnered a massive market share for itself. Nissan’s pricing strategy along with the car’s reliability is one of the prime causes for its popularity.

Given its price range, the Nissan Sunny competes with several cars that crisscross some segments. However, its chief rivals in the region include the Toyota Yaris sedan, Hyundai Accent, Honda City, and Kia Rio sedan.

Exterior

The new Nissan Sunny isn’t exactly the kind of car that will captivate you. However, it is also not exactly the least desirable car in its segment either. The front end of the Sunny has smooth lines that feature large headlamps and the familiar Nissan family grille, twin-slotted air dam on the bumper, along with integrated fog lamps.

The side profile of the Sunny is dominated by large windows, smartly-designed rims, and a sloping roofline that lends this budget sedan a sleeker appearance. The large overhang at the rear gives it a big sedan look, which works well in the Sunny’s favor. The rear fascia itself houses large, clear lens taillamps along with a large boot that can be had with a boot lid spoiler. The latter is capable of carrying up to 490 liters of luggage, which is enough to haul a week’s worth of grocery or for a quick airport trip.

The Nissan Sunny measures 4.425 meters in length, 1.695 meters in width, 1.500 meters in height, and 2.590 meters in wheelbase.

The cabin of the Nissan Sunny isn’t designed to blow your mind, but rather to offer practicality and user-friendly ergonomics. The materials used inside aren’t premium, but the build quality and fit & finish are sufficient and are meant to last long without compromising on longevity.

The Sunny has enough space for 5 occupants and the seats are comfortable enough even for longer journeys. Also, the Sunny can be had with features such as manual aircon, a Bluetooth-enabled music system with 4 speakers, central locking, 15-inch alloys, keyless entry with push-button start, and air vents to keep rear passengers comfortable during summer months.

Safety kit on the new Sunny includes the ubiquitous dual front airbags, antilock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, parking sensors, engine immobilizer and alarm, among others.

Engine and performance

The 2019 Nissan Sunny comes with a 1.5-liter four-popper petrol engine that makes 99 HP and 135 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to your typical rubbery CVT gearbox that sends power to the front wheels for forward propulsion. This budget family sedan isn’t going to break any speed records either as it takes a lousy 15.5 seconds to hit the ton mark from a standstill, while top speed is an equally ‘scintillating’ 178 km/h.

Due to its light mass of just over a ton, an economical engine, and a CVT gearbox, the new Nissan Sunny returns an impressive fuel consumption figure of 6.9L/100 km.

Verdict

Nissan Sunny 2019 Rear

The 2019 Nissan Sunny prices commence at AED 48,900 for the base variant, while the fully-option version will cost you AED 50,900. The Sunny’s insurance premium starts at AED 2,074, and the hit on wallet for the top version starts at AED 2,122. Despite its strong suits, the Nissan Sunny isn’t without its shortcomings. Some of its rivals do offer more features and style. However, few come close to its reputation as one of the most reliable cars in this price range.
