Fisker SUV

In the past couple of years, the car scene all over the world has been awash with announcements, teasers, and launches of new and exciting electric vehicles (or EVs). Clearly, the days when EVs were looked down upon and considered to be boring are gone, or at least on their way out. It’s also no surprise that big brands such as Tesla, Porsche, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz have all played a huge role in the evolution and acceptance of electric vehicles over the years. However, not many know about Fisker Inc. – a small American company specializing in electric vehicles. Initially branded as Fisker Automotive, their first car in 2011 was called the Karma. Although it was a plug-in hybrid and not a pure EV, the Karma showcased what the California-based company run by the Danish-born Henrik Fisker was capable of.

If you’re still not sure about Henrik, he was one of the chief designers of the BMW Z8, BMW X5, Aston Martin DB9, and Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Fast forward to 2016, Henrik Fisker founded Fisker Inc and promised to roll out some new and exciting EVs in the coming years. As it turns out, his and Fisker’s first ever car will be an all-electric SUV. This means that Fisker will combine two of the most lucrative ingredients in the automotive scene – electric power and sports utility vehicle into what could be one potent end product. The carmaker is yet to assign a name for its upcoming SUV, though it has dropped a teaser on what it could look like. Well, at least from the front that is.

Once it hits the marketplace, the Fisker SUV will go head to head with cars such as the Tesla Model Y. This could also mean that Fisker’s new electric SUV won’t be a large vehicle, but probably the same size as its competition. If the teaser is anything to go by, it’s clear that the Fisker’s design will feature a blend of tough SUV stance with dollops of futuristic styling to portray a sense of modernity and sophistication. According to the man himself, Fisker is looking forward to introducing up to three new EVs in the coming years, including the company’s first all-electric SUV, plus a luxury sedan.

As far as the Fisker SUV is concerned, the company has confirmed that it’ll come with an 80 kWh battery pack with a maximum range of around 480 km. This means that the Fisker will boast of a better range than the aforementioned Tesla Model Y base version. As for its pricing, the Fisker SUV is expected to cost in the region of USD 40,000. If you’re wondering when you can buy one of these, the official launch debut will be somewhere in late 2020 or early 2021. After its initial launch, you can also expect more powerful and longer range versions to be added. This will include the addition of dual-motor ones, just like you find in some of the Tesla models that are currently on sale.

While the Fisker SUV will mostly use some form of lithium-ion batteries, the company is working on an innovative solid-state battery technology for their future cars. However, since this is still work under progress, the earliest one can expect to see this technology being used will likely be in the Fisker luxury sedan. The sedan is slated to make its global debut after the launch of its SUV sibling, which puts its tentative official outing somewhere in the latter half of 2021. As for the prototype of the Fisker SUV, we think that it’ll surface at an auto show in late 2019 or early 2020.
