Mazda 3 2019

The affordable compact sedan is one of the most common sights on our roads, and their market proliferation only seems to be on the rise. Of course, there are some very good reasons behind all this. These cars are usually priced competitively, easy to drive, spacious enough for a family, and tend to offer some neat features, too. The Mazda 3 is one of the most compelling buys within this segment, being available as a sedan or hatchback, and is one of the best-selling cars for the brand, worldwide.

The Mazda 3 made its international debut in 2003, and it soon gained traction among its target audience. Interestingly enough, the first and second generation of the 3 shared its underpinnings (known as Mazda B platform) with the Ford Focus. Moving on, the 2019 Mazda 3 represents the fourth and latest iteration of this popular compact sedan. It competes with some equally popular cars such as the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, and Nissan Sentra.

Exterior

The Mazda 3 sedan’s exterior design has always been one of its key strengths, and with the new model, things are no different. The 2019 Mazda 3 is a sharp and athletic looking thing, with a pointy front end and stylish body lines. Using the latest form of their Kodo design philosophy, Mazda has managed to make this compact sedan look quite attractive.

The front fascia houses a large grille that’s flanked by sleek headlights, topped off by a sloping hood and a sporty-looking lower bumper design. The urbane and upscale aesthetics continues along the well-proportioned side of the 3 sedan as well, with fancy alloy wheels, flared wheel arches, and a gradually sloping roofline. The rear of the 3 sedan features chic, double-barrel design LED taillights, and (real) dual exhaust tips.

The 2019 Mazda 3 sedan is larger than the outgoing model, and bears dimensions of 4.580 meters, 1.795 meters, 1.455 meters, and 2.700 meters in length, width, height, and wheelbase, respectively. As for its trunk capacity, the total volume now stands at 350 liters.

Interior

Mazda 3 Interior

In my opinion, the interior styling and appeal of the new 2019 Mazda 3 is more visually exciting and upmarket than any of its rivals. This is not a bland and dull cabin, and the combination of different textures, layers, and contours adds to the overall charm – considering the price point. Mazda has also made considerable advances in the quality department in regards to the materials, build, and fit and finish.

The new 3’s cabin is now more spacious and comfortable, while also scoring better in terms of NVH levels. Its gadgets catalogue contains adaptive auto-headlights, adaptive cruise control, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, keyless entry with push-button start, head-up display, an infotainment screen with navigation, a Bose audio system, ABS with EBD, multiple airbags, blind-spot monitor, and parking sensors with camera.

Engine and performance

The 2019 Mazda 3 is available with a choice of 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter four-poppers. Both drive the front wheels via a 4-speed and 6-speed automatic transmissions, respectively. The 2.0-liter motor in the Mazda 3 makes 153 hp and 200 Nm of torque, enabling the compact sedan to breach the 100 km/h mark in around 10 seconds, and hit a top speed of 205 km/h. These two engines consume between 6.9-7.3 L per 100 kilometers of fuel, pretty average numbers for its class.

Prices for the 2019 Mazda 3 sedan start at AED 66,900 for the base 1.6 variant, while the full-option trim with the two-liter mill begins at AED 102,900. Cost of insurance ranges between AED 1,505 and AED 2,315.
